A. Look back at all the sources we examined in class ("Child of the Americas, "America: A New Man" other poems, videos, songs & speeches)

B. Create your own final definition of a modern American. This opinion piece can be written in poem or prose form.

  2. An American is someone who had ancestors who came over to America to live a better life. Whether it was for themselves or their kids, they came over to America because where they lived previously didn't have the same opportunities America had. They could've moved also because of conflict or internal problems in their home country. Once they come over to America, they will be able to seek for more opportunities so that they can set their eyes on the dreams they once thought of.

  7. An American can be from any part of the world, as we are all scattered. All our different traditions, cultures, and differences is what makes America a whole, it is what makes America, AMERICA! An American has been able to blend his backgrounds with his “American” ways. Now let’s touch upon the way an American is, an American takes extreme pride in the USA and is huge on core values. To touch in deeper into what I mean, an American can honor the armed soldiers showing their patriotism, or will love and die for their country, or can even be patriotic in sports (supporting our American teams.) Furthermore, an American will respect and follow the laws. Lastly, they are given an abundant amount of opportunities and freedom being here in America.

  13. An "American".
An American to me is anything but the matter that is states itself as. More so with the fact that being an American is nonetheless a subcategory that we all happen to fall under. The thing that differentiates us is how we schedule our days and what we occupy our time with. Some more than others go to school, or work a job. Since that is the systematic ideal that our very brains have devoured and later on comply with. We may have pride for our country and wave the military in everyone's faces since that is our biggest luxury. While others abide by the laws and just live their quiet lives without trying to cause commotion. This abbreviation on commotion can dictate whether or not some of us are really for or against being an American.

  17. An American could be anyone from anywhere. Being an American doesn’t limit you from expressing your culture and religious beliefs. It means being a citizen or someone who resides in America. In some cases one can be be born into citizenship as long as they were born and raised on American soil. Or you can apply for citizenship legally by living in America for a certain amount of time without the addition of trips to other countries. Which is why America is one of the most diverse countries.
